Australia Wide First Aid (AWFA) is so excited to announce that we have just opened a new first aid training location at Cessnock, the largest town in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales.

At Cessnock, we will be setting up stumps at Freemasons Hall Cessnock, the home of the local Freemasons chapter, a fraternal society dedicated to the wellbeing of local community groups.

To celebrate the opening of our new Cessnock training location, we will look at the history of the surrounding area and what to expect from an AWFA first aid course.

To enrol in one of our Cessnock first aid courses, head to the Cessnock location page and follow the prompts.

We can also come to you – head to our group bookings page to organise tailored group first aid training at your home or workplace today.

Cessnock

Cessnock forms an important part of NSW’s Hunter Valley region. Since becoming a major mining centre at the end of the 19th century, Cessnock is now the largest town in Australia’s oldest wine region. Some other interesting facts about Cessnock include:

  • Prior to European settlement, the Darkinjung lived in the area around Cessnock
  • The name ‘Cessnock’ originates from John Campbell, an early settler who was granted acreage along Black Creek in 1826 and subsequently named his property after Cessnock Castle, Scotland
  • The junction where Cessnock now stands became an important camp for teamsters, a person who drives teams of draft animals
  • William Keene discovered coal in the district in 1856. The first Cessnock mine, Aberdare Mine, was subsequently opened in 1905, and the growth of mining allowed the town to eventually be declared a municipality in 1926
  • Bouffier, a German winemaker, established a vineyard at Cessnock around 1866, of which there are now 150 in the Hunter Valley region

More information about Cessnock and the surrounding region can be found on the Aussie Towns website.

Freemasons Hall Cessnock

Our first aid courses will be held at the home of Freemasons Cessnock, a fraternal society of men who support the welfare, health, and well-being of local community groups through charitable fundraising and community projects.

In particular, Freemasons Cessnock aims to instil young people with confidence in leadership, discipline, and public speaking, and with mindfulness of charity, understanding, and community spirit.

The hall, itself, has state of the art facilities to keep our students comfortable and engaged in the learning process, including:

  • Parking only walking distance away
  • Accessible via public transport
  • Toilets
  • Drinking water
  • Classroom-style seating
  • Hygiene in line with current infection controls
  • HLTAID012 students also get a scheduled 30-minute lunch break

First aid courses

First aid refers to the immediate medical assistance rendered to a person who has sustained a sudden illness or injury.

While it is not a substitute for professional medical care, confident and effective first aid can reduce the casualty’s risk of permanent disability and even death.

We have been delivering industry leading and nationally accredited first aid training since 1996.

Since then, it has been our mission to make it easier for people Australia wide to learn first aid and thereby contribute to the safety and wellbeing of communities throughout the country.

We will be offering the following first aid courses in Cessnock:

  • HLTAID009 Provide CPR – you will learn how to respond to an emergency using DRSABCD, how to perform CPR, and how to use an AED
  • HLTAID011 Provide first aid – you will learn how to respond to an emergency using DRSABCD, how to perform CPR, how to use an AED, and how to apply first principles for a variety of injuries or illnesses, including shock, hypoglycaemia, and hypothermia
  • HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting – you will learn how to respond to an emergency using DRSABCD, how to perform CPR, how to use an AED, and how to provide first aid in emergency situations common to the education and care industry, such as asthma and anaphylaxis

What to expect

All our Cessnock first aid courses comprise an online eLearning component and face-to-face assessed training.

The online eLearning component is a multiple-choice quiz that you can attempt as many times as you need with the support of our free First Aid eBook. It must be completed at least the night before attending your first aid course.

During the face to face assessed training, you will subsequently put your knowledge to the test under the guidance of an experienced AWFA trainer.

We pride ourselves on developing the most effective first aiders possible. As such, our trainers are industry leaders who have a wealth of real-life experience in first aid situations.

And thanks to our Price Beat Guarantee, you won’t have to pay an arm and a leg to enrol – in fact, if you find a cheaper equivalent first aid course, we’ll beat it by 10%.

Likewise, after completing your first aid course, you will receive your first aid certificate on the same day. We are a registered training organisation that has been delivering first aid training since 1996, and our certificates are accredited and accepted throughout Australia.
